Description

The Girls and The Blue Box, Page 16.

This is a continuation of the story of Clara, Hermione, and Merope, travelling in the Tardis, in The Girls and The Box, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6, Page 7, Page 8, Page 9, Page 10., Page 11, Page 12,  Page 13, Page 14, and Page 15.

---------------------

Previously:

When Hermione used a Time Turner to stop Merope from using magic on Tom Riddle and having Lord Voldemort; it shattered the multiverse.

Then, Clara pulled them into Doctor Who’s Tardis; so, they could to try to fix it.

Their attempts to fix things have failed, while the Tardis is losing power.

The hope is that if Merope returns to the point she left, it will reset the timeline: either back to its original history;

Or, a new course, if she goes with the Ministry Official, who was at her family cottage, when she snuck out, which could change everything.

[Previously titled, ‘Clara, Hermione, Merope and the Tardis, Part 13’.]

Clara and Hermione held their breath, waiting to see what Merope would do.

They watched as Merope knelt down beside the unconscious Tom Riddle, pushing his dark, curly hair away from his face; and, saw her bend over and kiss him.

Merope looked at him, laying there, and thought all she had to do was cast the spell; she could make him love her.

Then, she looked back to the Tardis, and thought about Clara and Hermione. They had risked so much to help her.

If she stayed with Tom Riddle, they had warned her that the universe could collapse, or her son would be the most powerful wizard ever born; but, Hermione had said he would cause untold suffering. She shook her head. That couldn’t be.

When she looked back, she saw a girl dressed in servants’ clothes, just like the ones which her Father had stolen for her from the manor house kitchens. She must have come down from the big house, following the others.

Seeing this scullery maid, dressed just like herself, Merope realized that was all she was to him, to any of them, just a servant girl, and all she’d ever be, if she didn’t change things.

She took her wand out from under her pinafore, touching its glowing tip to his forehead, whispering, “Omnium obscura memoria venefica.”[*Roughly, “Push all memories of the witch from of your mind.”] She had heard her Father use a version of this spell on Muggles before, to make them forget.

Clara and Hermione were watching from the Tardis. They saw Merope bend over Tom Riddle again, they couldn't quite hear as she whispered in his ear; but, Hermione thought she heard her say, “Vale [Farewell].”

Then, there was a blinding flash of green light, from the willow stick, she used as a wand, when no one watching.

“What’s happening?” Hermione asked, rubbing her eyes.  “I don’t know,” Clara said. “I can’t see anything.”

The Tardis shook and shuddered. Blinded, Clara and Hermione scrabbled to hold on to the console.

“Hang on!” Clara shouted, over the ship’s klaxon.

“Hang on to what?” Hermione protested. “I can’t see anything!”

The Tardis shook, shuddered, and hissed. “It’s probably just the Tardis resetting herself,” Clara reminded her.

“I wish we could see what was going on,” Hermione shouted back.

“I know," Clara agreed, “as The Doctor says, ‘We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next’.”

 “How droll,” Hermione yelled back.

When they looked at the monitor again, their eyes still blurry, they both gasped.

"Oh." Hermione said, "That can't be good."

As someone wrote in my yearbook, “I can’t remember; and, you can’t forget; which is better?” [The former, maybe?]

Merope will always remember, even if he doesn’t; or, maybe, never would.
