Description
Last Duet
Morwyn the Siren, an Undine, found herself lost on the lonely islands off the coast in the Irish Sea;
After following the Gulf Stream, thinking, mistakenly as it turned out, that it would take her to a warm sea, north of the Mare Nostrum.
She heard Gwyn, singing from her cottage window, over-looking the rocky coastline; and, joined her in the harmonies.
Together they sang every day; Both unable to reach the other; And, both alone and together.
Until, one day Morwyn didn’t hear Gwyn singing.
And, concerned for Gwyn, she pulled herself on to the shore, and stepped on to the land.
She soon found Gwyn’s last resting space, and exhausted fell on her grave.
Where Morwyn sang one last lament, as long as she had breath;
Until morning, when her dirge ended; and, she joined Gwyn, with the rosy, fingered dawn;
And, found her soul.

Sea Nymphs, like other Elementals, only have a soul, if a human loves them.
Then, they lose their invulnerability; but, gain immortality.

Notes:
[1] Undines are elemental beings associated with water, first named in the alchemical writings of Paracelsus, and also found in Ovid's Metamorphoses.
There are many related kinds, such as nereides, limnads, naiades , mermaids, and other similar beings.
Although, they resemble humans, they lack a soul.
And, can only gain an immortal soul, if a human loves them.

[2] Sirens, in Greek mythology, are dangerous creatures, who lure nearby sailors with their enchanting voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their islands.
Sophocles says Phorcys the Sea God, was their father;[9] but, in other places they are usually said to be daughters of the river god Achelous,[10] with one of the Muses.

[3] Some of the Muses and their sisters are memorialized in the Asteroid Belt, seen in Ceres and The Asteroid Belt.

“And without music…. there is nothing... For even the universe itself is… a certain harmony of sounds, and the very heavens revolve under the guidance of harmony.”

“Love is the only bow on Life's dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb.
It is the mother of art… It is the air and light of every heart — builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth…
It fills the world with melody — for music is the voice of love.”
-Robert G. Ingersoll, Orthodoxy (1884).
