Hold On To Your Trees

Description

Hang On To Your Trees

The most fantastic thing in the world is being somewhere where the world sounds like itself, without noise pollution from stereos, traffic, helicopters, etc.

And, the saddest thing, is that it’s getting more rare, every day.

--------------------------------

This was made for the New Challenge: MY SADNESS', hosted by Castle-of-Cards.

:iconcastle-of-cards:

Theme: Delve into your feelings and illustrate a sadness, pain or injury.

Guidelines: Must include one animal and human.

Due Date: June 5th, 2017

Memo:

It’s incredible, finding somewhere where the world sounds like itself, without noise, or pollution.

And, it’s tragic is that it’s getting more rare, every day.

How do people think they’re going to survive without natural resources, like clean air and water?

How do they think wildlife can survive without a place to live?

There’s nothing more tragic than realizing that every day, we’re all being herded, like lemmings, to the edge of destruction, for the sake of greed, of a few.

How do they think their children, or grandchildren can live in this world? Or, don’t they care? How can they be so unnatural?

Humans seem compelled to drive the age of mammals to a massive extinction.

Maybe, that’s how God or Evolution works.

Maybe, the system’s designed, that after the Alpha species reaches its apex; they drive their genus to such extremes, that they can’t survive into another epoch.

Like enormous Sauropods and Theropods, such as Brontosaurus and Tyrannosaurus, driving their species to such extremes, that they’re unable to survive the next stressors, like climate change.

Let’s hope it’s not too late to hold on to the nature left in the world; and, what we’ve got, to survive.

The Guardian: Worst Nightmare: #deforestation

By Christian Davies in Białowieża, 23 May 2017 15.11 BST

The Polish government is accused of pushing Białowieża forest ecosystem to point of no return with state-sanctioned logging in UNESCO world heritage site

-------------------------

Deforestation

Between 2000 and 2012, 2.3 million square kilometres (890,000 square miles) of forests around the world were cut down.[9]

As a result of deforestation, only 6.2 million square kilometres (2.4 million square miles) remain of the original 16 million square kilometres (6 million square miles) of forest that formerly covered the Earth.[9]

Deforestation eliminates a great number of species of plants and animals which also often results in an increase in disease.[177]

Loss of native species allows new species to come to dominance. Often the destruction of predatory species can result in an increase in rodent populations which can carry disease.

---------------------------

An old-growth forest — also termed primary forest, virgin forest, primeval forest, late seral forest, or (in Great Britainancient woodland — is a forest that has attained great age without significant disturbance and thereby exhibits unique ecological features and might be classified as a climax community.[1] Old-growth features include diverse tree-related structures that provide diverse wildlife habitat that increases the biodiversity of the forested ecosystem.

In 2006 Greenpeace identified that the world's remaining intact forest landscapes are distributed among the continents as follows:[42]

  • 35% in Latin America. The Amazon rainforest is mainly located in Brazil, which clears a larger area of forest annually than any other country in the world.[43]
  • 28% in North America, which harvests 10,000 square kilometres of ancient forests every year.
  • Many of the fragmented forests of southern Canada and the United States lack adequate animal travel corridors and functioning ecosystems for large mammals.[43]
  • 19% in Northern Asia, home to the largest boreal forest in the world.[44]
  • 8% in Africa, which has lost most of its intact forest landscapes in the last 30 years.
  • 7% in South Asia Pacific, where the Paradise Forests are being destroyed faster than any other forest on the planet.
  • Less than 3% in Europe, which are shrinking rapidly.

------------------------------

If people believe that God or billions of years of evolution created the biosphere, why do they act like they can pull apart all the pieces, with impunity?

Dreams

Langston Hughes, 1902 - 1967

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.
-----

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.
